Ljubljana is a compact capital with a population of 295.000, characterized by a dynamic history and heritage, rich cultural, artistic and tourist facilities and a relaxed atmosphere. It develops with a clear vision and high environmental awareness, the result of which are various projects dealing with aspects of sustainable development. Ljubljana has received for its efforts in sustainability numerous prestigious international awards, among which surpasses the title of Green Capital of Europe 2016.
Business visitors are most often impressed by the hospitality of the local population, multilingualism and a sense of security. It is also considered a logistically extremely manageable destination, with the vast majority of conference and special venues, hotel accommodation and tourist attractions in the immediate vicinity of the city centre, which means that transfers are usually unnecessary.
Conference facilities
At the national level, Ljubljana offers the highest quality of conference facilities for the organisation of various meetings and events. It is the leading destination by the number of international congress and business events in Slovenia. Ljubljana boasts with two highly flexible convention centres, the CD Congress Centre Ljubljana and GR Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, which offer dozens of multi-purpose halls and function conference rooms, state-of-the-art technical equipment and have a maximum plenary capacity of 2,200 delegates each.
Various special venues are available near the city centre for all types of events, from the more classical and elegant atriums of galleries and museums to more alternative or even completely unusual and innovative venues such as former, abandoned factories or theatres.
Accommodation facilities
Ljubljana offers a wide range of accommodation of all categories and types, currently comprising 3.450 hotel rooms. Additional units are available in boarding houses, apartments, Airbnbs, youth hostels and boarding schools and private rooms. Along with these various accommodation types, there are currently around 10.200 beds available in Ljubljana. All major hotels and most other facilities have been extensively renovated or rebuilt in the last decade. Many are located in the city centre and are within 3 km of the Old Town, major institutions and venues.
